CUBA - Tropical Storm Ian is tracking northwest at 12 mph and is 160 miles from the Cayman Islands. It is forecast to bring heavy rain, flooding, and storm surge to the Cayman Islands and Jamaica. The storm will rapidly intensify overnight as it crosses the warm waters of the Caribbean. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.
PHILADELPHIA – The end of an era is here, and Devil’s Den, Philadelphia’s leading craft beer bar, is saying farewell to loyal patrons, fans, and neighbors with one celebratory streetside Blow Out Block Party on Sunday, October 2, from 1 pm – 7 pm, with the street at 11th & Ellsworth, blocked to allow for a bevy of fun-filled activities, great beer, food, music, and some of the beer maven and Devil’s Den owner Erin Wallace’s favorite causes.
PHILADELPHIA - Marcello De Fao, the chef/owner of The Fare Porter in Haddonfield, NJ, and Dane DeMarco, the chef/owner of Burgertime in Audubon, NJ, have decided to team up to host a friendly burger contest in South Jersey, with funds raised going towards the parks & recreation departments for the respective communities where each restaurant is located.
PHILADELPHIA - Saquan Howard, the chef, and owner of Cray Taste Old City, which opened in August of 2021 at 118 Market Street in Philadelphia, is introducing a new burger menu intending to raise money for those affected by Sickle Cell Anemia. The fundraiser will begin on Monday, October 3rd, and runs through the end of October.
PHILADELPHIA - Hurricane Ian has reached Category 5 and is rapidly moving toward the mainland of Florida. It's expected to land in a hurricane warning area by Wednesday night. The region from Longboat Key to Bonita Beach is expected to feel the worst storm surge. Hurricane Ian is expected to cause significant damage to property and life.
PHILADELPHIA - As the storm moves slowly across Florida, residents have no choice but to stay inside. Many flights have been canceled or delayed, and airports in Tampa and Orlando are closed. Cruise lines are also postponing or canceling voyages. The hurricane is expected to bring up to 30 inches of rain to some areas of Florida and a storm surge of five to eight feet. It is expected to cross central Florida on Thursday and emerge into the Atlantic later Thursday.
