According to reporting by PhillyBite Magazine, the suspicious package that prompted the evacuation at Philadelphia City Hall was initially flagged by a Philadelphia Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit. The detection dog signaled a positive hit on an unattended box located inside the fourth-floor City Hall caucus room, prompting building administrators and the mayor's office to order an immediate sweep and clearing of the building.
The sudden alert halted proceedings before debate could begin. Action News reporter Maggie Kent was inside the chambers preparing to broadcast coverage of the opening session when law enforcement moved swiftly to usher personnel and visitors outside the perimeter.
