PHILADELPHIA — Dozens of residents were forced to evacuate a West Philadelphia high-rise early Friday morning after a fire broke out in a 14th-floor apartment at The Premier at City Line on the 6100 block of City Avenue in Overbrook.
Philadelphia Fire Department crews responded just before 12:30 AM to reports of flames in a corner unit near a stairwell. Battalion Chief Mark Pugh said the fire's location near the stairwell allowed firefighters relatively quick access to the blaze.
Firefighters brought the fire under control by about1 a.m. No injuries were reported. Two residents of the affected apartment were displaced, while other residents were allowed to return once firefighters cleared the scene.
The fire marshal is investigating the cause.
The Premier at City Line is a multi-story residential complex along City Avenue near the Philadelphia-Lower Merion border. Officials have not yet released additional details about the extent of damage inside the unit or the timeline for the displaced residents' return.
