PHILADELPHIA — An investigation is underway by the Philadelphia Police Department's bomb squad after an inert grenade was thrown into a North Philadelphia home early Thursday morning before an occupant tossed it back outside. No injuries were reported.
According to police, the incident occurred around 2 AM when an unknown person threw the object through a window of a rowhome on the 400 block of West Courtland Street in the city's Feltonville section. Someone inside the home quickly grabbed the device and threw it back out the window onto the sidewalk.
Investigators and the police bomb squad responded to the scene, where the area was taped off as they examined the object. While initially treated as a suspected explosive device, police confirmed in a morning update that the object was an "inert grenade" and posed no danger to the public.
The block was not evacuated during the incident, and the bomb squad safely removed the device from the scene around 3:37 AM. No arrests have been made, and an investigation into who threw the grenade remains ongoing.
