PHILADELPHIA - If you tried to drive around Logan Circle this week, you likely sat in a jam.
The orange cones are up, the inner lanes are closed, and the sidewalks are torn up. It’s annoying, but it’s also the start of something huge. This is the official kickoff of the "Parkway 2026" renovation, designed to transform the often-dangerous speedway into a pedestrian-friendly green space before the world arrives for the Semiquincentennial.
What is Happening?
- Logan Circle: Crews are currently widening the pedestrian access and replanting the gardens.
- The "Oval": The parking lot at Eakins Oval is being permanently converted into a park plaza.
- The Timeline: The heavy machinery will be active through Spring 2026.
The Payoff: When this finishes, the Parkway won't just be a highway you sprint across to get to the Art Museum; it will be a continuous park connecting City Hall to the river. Until then? Maybe avoid the Circle during rush hour.
