Gino Razzi planted sandy Hill Vineyard in Parkesburg on a 22-acre site. The unique vineyard site is on a sunny slope at a higher altitude with temperatures that remain slightly lower than the Chadds Ford site. This makes it an ideal place to grow in the cool climate of Pinot Noir. 2020 Reserve is a blend from their clones 667, 114, 115 & Pommard. It was harvested in September and fermented using native yeasts. The wine then spent twelve months in French oak. The wine's nose combines plums, red cherries, and earthy flavors. It also has fresh red fruits on its palate. It has a balanced acidity and well-structured tannins. The wine is well-aged, but you can still taste the baking spices.

Penns Wood's dry Rose blended the Sandy Hill and Chadds Ford sites in years past. However, this 2021 vintage marks its first single-vineyard blend with varietals from Sandy Hill. The blend comprises Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon. It was harvested in September, then given a slow, gentle pressing to ensure enough skin contact, which gives it a beautiful, Provence-esque color. It has a lovely burst with white flowers, stone fruits, and a refreshing, acid-driven acidity. Davide Creato, the winemaker, says this rose is a tasty, crisp, and food-driven wine. It is one of my favorite wines to make and drink. To ensure that the fruit is vibrant in acidity and fresh flavors, we harvest them just before they are fully ripe. This wine is an excellent example of how to work with the vine and achieve exceptional results.

The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition was established in 1980. It is the largest North American wine competition. Over 5,500 wines were submitted from more than 1,000 wineries in the U.S. to the prestigious panel of judges, which included wine critics, top wine buyers, educators, and winemakers. Significant competition is eye-opening for the unrecognized potential that Pennsvylanian wine can offer.

This award-winning wine can be purchased at the Penns Woods Winery Tasting Room, Chadds Ford, or online—the winery ships directly throughout the state, New Jersey, and New York. Penns Woods Winery rose by the glass at any White Dog Cafe, Greystone Oyster Bar and other local restaurants or breweries around Philadelphia.
