PHILADELPHIA - East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District revives its highly acclaimed Women Mean Business event with She Rocked It. The event features a panel discussion, community conversation, and networking event where local women business owners will share their experiences, challenges, successes, and real talk about how to grow revenue.
Karen Gross will again host the event. She is a renowned performer, communications professional, creative entrepreneur, and founder/host of She Rocked It, which provides mentorship and media platforms for courageous, creative women.
The following are the featured panelists for Women Mean business: Rock Your Revenue":
- Tara Alexander - Co-Founder of Urban Jungle. This community-oriented green space is focused on creating community. It was also rated Best of Philly: Best Place for City Plants.
- Cathy Lee – Co-Owner at Le Virtu. The Philadelphia Inquirer has recognized Le Virtu with three 3-bell reviews over the past 15 years, including the first ever given to a South Philadelphia restaurant. It was also featured in Philadelphia magazine's 50 Best Restaurants issues.
- Tanya Morgan, Founder and Owner of the Sawubona Creativity project, combines social-emotional learning (SEL), competencies, and character education into theater arts programs such as applied improvisation, literary and performing arts, storytelling, and writing in a fun and interactive way.
- Amanda Rucker - Co-Founder and Owner of River Twice, an award-winning American modern restaurant that shares the bounty of our region. Amanda designed the entire restaurant using green sustainable design principles.
East Passyunk Avenue houses more than 160 independent businesses. Half of these are women-owned as of 2023. " Women Mean business: Rock your Revenue" allows women-owned business owners to share their stories with a group of people interested in starting a business, learning about the lives of local entrepreneurs, and connecting with other like-minded people. The panel discussion and Q&A at Society Hill Dance Academy (1919 East Passyunk Ave) are a great learning opportunity and networking opportunity for locals and tourists.
We need more places where women can talk openly about money and finance. Karen Gross, a former East Passyunk resident, and a long-time fan, is thrilled to collaborate with the Business Improvement District to host an evening of women supporting each other in sharing their stories. Karen Gross was-in-chief of Where Magazine Philadelphia before launching She Rocked It. The She Rocked It podcast reveals the lives of courageous, creative women entrepreneurs. We could not be happier to learn from some women who run successful businesses on the Avenue.
The discussion will focus on how to Rock Your Revenue. This includes launching, sustaining, and growing a business, determining pricing, hiring staff, weathering economic downturns, seeking financial guidance, investing, and speaking up when negotiating contracts. Following the panel discussion, there will be a Q&A session with community members for questions about entrepreneurship and owning a small business within this area of Philadelphia. Manatawny Still Works will serve light bites and libations throughout the evening, among others.
