PHILADEPHIA PA  - The Philadelphia Streets Department has been behind on trash collections for more than a year now. In South Philly, citizens report mountains of trash bags filling up back ally ways and city streets.

Trash and recycling pickup in Philadelphia has been riddled with delays of up to a few weeks across the city for months.

What Behind Philadelphia Trash Problems?

The streets department has sent out a few press releases, pointing to the pandemic and lack of workers as the core problem. When a pandemic first started, workers called out sick, and trash volume increased as people stayed home. However, the department has had over a year to deal with the shortages and make corrections. The city even suggested that residents take their trash to one of the city's sanitation convenience centers. Doesn't this defeat the purpose of paying taxes for sanitation services?
