PHILADELPHIA — For generations, the Wanamaker Light Show has been a non-negotiable stop on the Philadelphia holiday circuit. Families gather in the Grand Court to watch the 100,000 lights dance to the organ music, and then... usually, they leave.

But starting this Black Friday, there is a compelling reason to stay.

German American Marketing, the organizers behind the massive Christmas Village in Love Park, has teamed up with the Philadelphia Visitor Center Corporation to launch The Shops at Wanamaker Light Show. This brand-new indoor market will place 30 curated local vendors directly inside the historic Wanamaker Building (Macy’s), right beneath the glow of the famous light show.

A "Heated" Competition for Best Market The new market fills a crucial gap in Center City’s holiday lineup: a fully indoor, heated shopping experience. While Dilworth Park and Love Park offer sprawling outdoor villages, the Wanamaker market allows visitors to warm up while browsing handmade gifts, spirits, and Philly-themed art.

“When we heard about the Philadelphia Visitor Center’s initiative to bring the Light Show back, we didn’t think twice,” said Christmas Village organizer Dr. Thomas Bauer. “Artists, designers, and crafters will fill the space with life beyond The Wanamaker Light Show hours.”

The Logistics The market debuts on Black Friday, November 28, 2025, and runs through Christmas Eve. It will operate daily from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (closing early at 4:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve).

Shoppers should note that the market will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays during the first two weeks (Dec 1, 2, 8, and 9).

With this addition, Center City now boasts a continuous circuit of holiday commerce, linking the Christmas Village at City Hall, the Made in Philadelphia Market at Dilworth Park, and now, the historic Grand Court at Wanamaker’s.
