PHILADELPHIA, PA - Several Center City Streets are scheduled for resurfacing beginning the evening of July 6th, announced Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams. The work schedule includes temporary street closures and parking restrictions. Weather or special events in the area may alter the work schedule.

The contractor will perform resurfacing on the following streets:

  • Callowhill Street from Broad Street to 17th Street
  • 15th Street from Spring Garden Street to Callowhill Street
  • Buttonwood Street from Broad Street to 15th Street

The resurfacing work for these streets is expected to be completed by the end of July. Work will be completed in three separate phases – street milling, the adjustment of utility hole covers and resetting of utility boxes, and final paving – which will take place in separate activities over the course of the next several weeks.

Operations for the milling work (removal of old asphalt) will be performed overnight between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Milling of each street segment is expected to last approximately one-to-two nights per street. Work for adjusting utility hole covers and resetting utility boxes will be scheduled during the day between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. and is expected to last approximately one week. Lastly, the contractor performs operations for the final paving during overnight hours between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. The final paving for all streets is expected to last approximately one-to-two nights per street.

To complete the work, residents should expect some parking restrictions. Temporary “No Parking” signs will be posted in advance of each scheduled activity. Residents are urged to move their cars from the work sites when temporary “No Parking” signs are posted so that vehicles are not towed. If a car is towed, please contact the Ninth Police District at 215-686-3090 to determine its location. While the Streets Department will make every effort to minimize disruption to traffic, residents are urged to plan and use alternative routes when traveling in these areas.
