PHILADELPHIA, PA. - A Philadelphia Police Officer is recovering from a gunshot wound after a gunman shot at officers during a traffic stop in the Olney section of Philadelphia.


One Dead and Officer Wounded in Philadelphia Traffic Stop

The incident occurred on the 1500 block of Somerville Avenue and ended with the gunman being killed on one officer wounded.

The incident began around 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday when police officers pulled over a Kia Optima with three men and one woman inside.

The two officers called for backup when they learned that two of the car's individuals had outstanding warrants and, officials said.

When backup arrived, one of the men allegedly opened fire at the officers, ran out of the car, then reportedly fired more shots at the officers.

Officers fired back, Shooting the suspect multiple times., the man was taken to the nearby Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia, where he was pronounced dead at 7 p.m.
