Philadelphia, PA - Restaurateurs Chris Fetfatzes and Heather Annechiarico announce the grand opening of Pivot Coffee and Soupery at 738 S. 11th Street, this Thursday, December 17, 2020, at 7:00 am sharp.

The husband-wife duo behind popular concepts Hawthornes, Wine Dive, Tio Flores, Quick Sip, The Cambridge, and soon-to-open Grace and Proper, present their first-ever full-service coffee and espresso shop, soupery, bakeshop, and wine shop - all rolled into one. With indoor dining closed at the moment, and it being months before Hawthornes would see indoor dining back to full 100% capacity, the couple looked ahead and wanted to Pivot with their new coffee shop - which comes complete with a new pastry chef, an expanded streetery, Igloo bubble outdoor dining, and a full special menu for Christmas and the holidays. On the menu, look for breakfast sandwiches, breakfast grab and go, pastries and baked goods by Dan Tang (Sugar Philly), sandwiches, coffee, espresso, iced drinks, boozy hot and cold beverages, draft, bottled and canned beer, 150+ bottles of wine, and at least six types of soups daily. Pivot Coffee and Soupery hours will be 7:00 am to 4:00 pm seven days a week. Hawthornes will operate next door, opening daily at 9:00 am for table service and the full menu of brunch, lunch, and dinner favorites. Hawthornes will feature select Pivot Coffee offerings after 4:00 pm pending the day and inventory.

While many would postpone the opening on Thursday from what is possibly the first-in-history pandemic snow day during a Nor'easter, this is 2020 and Fetfatzes/Annechiarico isn't your average restaurant owner. The duo invites the flakes to fly to create a magical vibe and distraction we all need right now - and Igloo seating will be open for a hot coffee, fresh muffin, and savory bowl of comforting soup. As a special nod to restaurant employees around the city that may have lost shifts the night before due to the snow, the first  25 restaurant industry workers that stop by during the grand opening will get a free cup of the special Pivot Coffee exclusive One Village blend of coffee - regular size, one per person.

"Pivot Coffee and Soupery is designed as the ultimate pivot for our family and all of our employees," said Fetfatzes. "We spent months looking ahead, seeing where the trends are going, watching the data and talking to our team about what we could do to keep everyone employed and things operating through next summer at the very least. Pivot involved the installation and construction on the front of the building and a major shift inside as well. The all-encompassing take-out window is inviting and we hope will make everyone feel safe and comfortable."

He added, "We designed Pivot to create the ultimate coffee shop and cafe experience that sets us apart from others - and combines many things that we have to work with. Pivot brings together the best of Hawthornes' kitchen and marries it with baked goods from one of Philly's best bakers and pastry chefs. Our liquor license and access to expansive inventory through Quick Sip allow us to offer boozy hot drinks, holiday cocktails, and of course, 150+ well-priced bottles of wine to go."

Pivot Coffee and Soupery is a one-stop-shop for coffee and espresso drinks, loaded hot drinks, signature cocktails, teas and lemonades, spiked summertime favorites, espresso tonics, wine by the bottle, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, grab and go, muffins, bread, baked goods, cookies, macarons, sweets, and more.  Fetfatzes said, "We designed this to have everything we personally would ever want at one coffee shop and cafe - it's the dream place we always wanted!"

Additionally, Fetfatzes said he can't get enough of  AchaVino Vermouth Blanc simple over ice right now.

Wine is also available for delivery through Pivot Coffee and Hawthornes when you use the company app called Quick Sip. Make sure to bookmark Quick Sip especially in time for New Year's Eve - so you can have your bubbly delivered to your front door!

OUTDOOR DINING AND IGLOOS

Pivot Coffee and Hawthornes are now offering outdoor sidewalk and streetery eating. In time for Christmas, the expansive streetery on both sides of the building and down 11th Street is decorated and transformed into the Hawthornes Christmas Garden. Look for tables for two and four, plus decorated heated private Igloo bubbles for private dining away from the elements. Inside dining is not available at either spot at this time.

Reserved seating is available through Hawthornes on Open Table for both concepts - and seating is also available first-come, first-served by adding your name at the Pivot Coffee and Soupery take-out window.

VIBE AND OTHER DETAILS

Over the years, Hawthornes has become known and loved as a top neighborhood spot serving Bella Vista, South Philly, and beyond. The building has evolved with the times and survived a major fire - and now a global pandemic. With each incarnation, no matter what is happening there, there are always good vibes, the neighborhood feels, great food, and amazing drinks to be had. With this new project, Pivot Coffee cut through the front of the corner of the property with an adorable but giant take-out window - with a to-go counter adjacent on the inside.

On the inside, look for the top of the line espresso and coffee equipment, the glimmer from the rows and rows of wine bottles, and the hustle of the active coffee shop and soupery. On the other side of the property, Hawthornes has been reconfigured for when indoor dining returns - and yes, the famous warm glow is still coming from the neighborhood fireplace where you can get warm and toasty - when local and state officials allow, of course.

Outside, the building has been painted from top to bottom, including a new original art piece from Melissa Gombos - who among other projects is known for her giant cool cat mural at Wine Dive on South Street - also owned by Fetfatzes/Annechiarico.
