Philadelphia, PA – Today, Mayor Kenney announced the appointment of John M. Stanford, Jr. as Interim Police Commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department. Mr. Stanford began his career with the Philadelphia Police Department in 1993 and rose to become First Deputy Commissioner. In this role, he oversees all police operations and managed day-to-day operations for the department’s 6500 sworn members and 800 civilian personnel.

As Interim Police Commissioner, Mr. Stanford will continue to lead the department’s efforts to ensure public safety while building trust between police officers and citizens throughout Philadelphia neighborhoods. He will also work closely with city leaders on crime reduction initiatives and other strategies to make Philadelphia safer for all residents and visitors.
