Philadelphia, PA – The School District of Philadelphia is pleased to announce the Flat Rate Program, which offers families $300 a month to help cover the cost of transporting their children to school.  This program is designed to help alleviate the bus driver shortage impacting the city.

“Say that your children are attending a school that’s on your way to work; it’s a win-win,” said Monique Braxton, a district spokeswoman. “Anyway, to get kids to school is good in my book.”

The district currently has 210 bus drivers, with 105 openings still available. To entice more drivers to apply, they have increased pay and offer paid training for those needing a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Full-time drivers stand to make nearly $45k a year, and part-timers are slated for more than $23k annually. Trainees can make upwards of $18k per year.
