Chadds Ford, PA - The Brandywine Battlefield Park Associates are excited to announce their next speaker in the Revolutionary Speaker Series at Brandywine Battlefield Park on Saturday, March 18th, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM.

Join Bradley Smith, Archivist and Assistant Director of the Berks County History Center in Reading, Pennsylvania, for an inspiring discussion about Dr. Bodo Otto Sr's remarkable service to America during the Revolutionary War and his unique collection of surgical tools and personal effects. Dr. Otto was born and raised in Reading but remains well known throughout Pennsylvania today for his contributions and legacy as a surgeon to this nation's history.
At 65 years, he had already been providing healthcare to patients for four decades when he decided to retire at the ripe age of 65 and continue providing his services.

Dr. Otto was an invaluable asset to the Continental Army as its surgeon, organizing smallpox vaccinations for soldiers. Unfortunately, he also witnessed their crushing defeat at Saratoga Springs.

At the Battle of Long Island, Surgeon-in-Chief Thomas G. Lewis crossed over the Delaware River en route to battles at Trenton and Princeton. He served as Surgeon-in-Chief at Yellow Springs - a primary hospital for soldiers encamped at Valley Forge.

After the presentation, guests can explore Brandywine Battlefield Park's exhibit gallery and enjoy light refreshments. Tickets for this event cost $20.00 per person and can be purchased on Eventbrite for that price.
