PHILADELPHIA, PA  – The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (CCF) is proud to announce that Philadelphia Eagles Lincoln Financial Field’s Solar Wall is being illuminated in green on February 16, 2023, World Cholangiocarcinoma Day. The Foundation works with volunteers worldwide to feature green lighting in buildings, homes, hospitals, towers, and bridges to spread awareness about cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), a lethal cancer of the bile ducts.

Although it is considered rare cancer, the incidence of the disease is growing. A recent study (JAMA Network Open) estimates that by 2040, liver and bile duct cancer will be the third deadliest cancers in the United States. To advocate for much-needed funding and promote education about the disease, February is designated as Cholangiocarcinoma Awareness Month. This month, CCF sponsors a campaign called “Light it Green for CCA” to raise awareness and participate in World Cholangiocarcinoma Day, also known as World CCA Day.

“The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation’s ‘Light It Green for CCA’ campaign greatly impacts raising awareness. The campaign generates funds for much-needed research, moving us closer to a cure! Participating each year is a special part of my journey. The campaign shines a bright light of HOPE for all affected by cholangiocarcinoma. A light that lets us know we are not alone… there is a community, the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, along with expert doctors and researchers, fighting for us,” said Paige Rew, a cholangiocarcinoma survivor.

Volunteers light their homes, yards, and local buildings in green because it is the official color of CCA. This year, the Foundation gives the community 300 green light bulbs and awareness yard signs for free. The campaign also includes honoring those who have passed away from CCA, celebrating warriors fighting the disease and soliciting donations for CCA-specific research. A series of educational videos, patient stories, photos, and graphics are also shared during the month.

“We are grateful for the many volunteers and members of the CCF community who donate their time to help light buildings and homes green and educate their friends and family during awareness month,” said Stacie Lindsey, CCF CEO, and founder. “This campaign will positively impact the lives of patients diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma and will advance our progress in helping find the cure we all want.”

CCF is part of a global alliance and partners with institutions in the United Kingdom, Thailand, Italy, Denmark, Japan, and other countries to improve methods for early detection, increased treatment options, and improved quality of life and survival for CCA patients.
