PHILADELPHIA - On Monday, PA Reps. Josh Kail, Torren Ecker, and Tim O’Neal (R) called on Harrisburg legislators to start impeachment proceedings against Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner. Corman blamed the recent spike in violent crime in the city on Krasner's failed policies and failure to prosecute criminals. He cited several statistics from the Philadelphia Inquirer, including one that said 140 carjackings occurred in Philadelphia in a single month.
The city's gun violence has risen to a record high in the past two years, but authorities say it may take years to identify the exact causes of the recent spike in violent crime. According to one official, three people were killed and 11 wounded in a shooting on South Street last week. While Krasner has denied the crime spike, he blamed the recent violence on the NRA.
The Pennsylvania House hasn't acted on this yet, but three Republican state legislators have introduced Articles of Impeachment against Krasner. The three representatives are not from Philadelphia, and whether they will act on Corman's request is unclear. Nonetheless, they said they're open to any impeachment attempts. This is an unusual move, considering the state's non-recall laws, which allow impeachment proceedings against elected officials.
