PHILADELPHIA - Mayor Kenney has made it a top priority to reduce gun violence in Philadelphia. Last year, the city recorded its highest number of homicides since 2007. He has named a new police commissioner, Danielle Outlaw, to address the problem. He also wants to reduce the city's prison population by half and continue reforming the city's criminal justice system.

Philadelphia's Mayor Kenney plans today to sign an executive order banning guns in Philadelphia recreation spaces. The ban is a response to a string of high-profile shootings this past summer. The signing comes after the funeral of a Parks and Recreation worker who was killed while on the job.
