PHILADELPHIA - For over 20 years, Chef Jim Burke of Philadelphia has been making delicious food in the city he loved. Previously, he ran the James restaurant in South Philadelphia. Later, he taught a culinary program at Drexel University, helping to improve the city's restaurant culture. Unfortunately, the chef passed away after a two-year battle with EGFR lung cancer. Despite not smoking, he was diagnosed with the disease in August of this year. Eventually, the cancer spread.

While Jim Burke was working at Wm. Mulherin's Sons was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2020. His friends and neighbors rallied around him and offered well wishes. As word got out, his friends and neighbors started hosting Tag Time Happy Hours at their restaurants.

With the blessing of the Burke family, we have been able to plan a month-long fundraiser in honor of Jim. Restaurants and bars nationwide are invited to put on one of Jim’s favorite dishes and/or cocktails as a special for the month of September. All proceeds from the dish/cocktail will be donated to the GoFundMe the extended family has set up to support medical bills, childcare, and more.
