PHILADELPHIA - For over 20 years, Chef Jim Burke of Philadelphia has been making delicious food in the city he loved. Previously, he ran the James restaurant in South Philadelphia. Later, he taught a culinary program at Drexel University, helping to improve the city's restaurant culture. Unfortunately, the chef passed away after a two-year battle with EGFR lung cancer. Despite not smoking, he was diagnosed with the disease in August of this year. Eventually, the cancer spread.
While Jim Burke was working at Wm. Mulherin's Sons was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in 2020. His friends and neighbors rallied around him and offered well wishes. As word got out, his friends and neighbors started hosting Tag Time Happy Hours at their restaurants.
