PHILADELPHIA - After a week of widespread disruptions, American Airlines is reducing more than 1800 PHL flights this fall. The airlines are eliminating more than 10% of their scheduled trips nationwide, troubling travelers. On Sunday alone, 34 flights were canceled, and 19 were delayed in Philadelphia. The number of canceled flights is higher than the average for airlines throughout the country and is particularly troublesome for travelers who rely on American Airlines as their main gateway.
American Airlines Cutting More Than 1800 PHL Flights This Fall
The main reason for the cancellations is a shortage of pilots and flight attendants, which the airline says is a combination of weather and labor issues. In some cases, pilots are not properly trained to fly the aircraft. Flight schedules are cut so drastically that the airline can't fly. Regardless of the reasons, there is a significant loss of customer service and travel.
In addition to removing regional jets, American Airlines is reducing its schedule in Philadelphia. The company plans to add a new Flagship Lounge at its PHL hub to accommodate passengers. In the meantime, it's eliminating nonstop flights to Lisbon. Additionally, the airlines have terminated service on regional jets at the Philadelphia hub.
