PHILADELPHIA - The encampment came as a result of the cancellation of a federally subsidized housing contract. The developer plans to sell the complex for $100 million. The community has a disproportionately African-American population. The UC Townhomes are home to 69 low-income Black/Brown families.

On Saturday, an encampment was set up and a news conference was held to speak about the issues affecting the residents. In addition to protesters, residents of the UC Townhomes and residents of other properties in the area rallied around the new name of the complex: "People's Townhomes."
